Red Raspberries

Botanical name: Rubus idaeus

Common names: Raspberries, Rasiberi (Swahili)

Sweet, tangy, and packed with antioxidants, red raspberries thrive in Kenya’s cool highland regions like Limuru, Nyeri, and Kericho. With the right care, they fruit within a year, making them a rewarding, high-value crop. Each berry is made up of tiny drupelets, giving that juicy burst of flavour we love. Perfect for fresh eating, desserts, smoothies, or jam, raspberries are a nutritious treat and a farmer’s gem in Kenya’s emerging berry market.

Raspberries are perennial canes propagated by suckers, layering, or root cuttings. In Kenya’s highlands, primocane types fruit in 8–12 months; summer types the following year, with steady yields by year 2–3.

Outdoor planted care: Plant in full sun into the ground in well draining soil. Or purchase it in our Terracotta Super Large Pot. Water thoroughly throughout the first year.
