The Tommy mango is grafted from Mangifera indica ‘Tommy Atkins’, a popular improved variety prized for its high yield, durability, and commercial appeal in Kenyan farming systems. Frequently used in agroforestry and extension programs, it’s often paired with local varieties like Apple and Ngowe to boost market access, diversify harvests, and improve resilience.

The fruit is medium to large, oval-shaped, with green skin and a red-yellow blush. Its firm, golden-yellow flesh is juicy with a mild tropical sweetness and moderate fiber. In Kenya, Tommy mangoes are typically harvested from June to July and again from September to October.

The tree is vigorous, fast-growing, and begins fruiting in 3–4 years. Its high yield, striking color, and long shelf life make it a leading commercial and export choice, despite the fibrous texture.

Care Instructions:
Plant in full sun in well-draining soil, either directly in the ground or in our Terracotta Super Large Pot. Water thoroughly during the first year. Do not let the graft union touch soil or mulch. After 3 years, repot or plant in fertile, well-drained soil.

– Under no circumstances must the graft union ever be in contact with the soil or with mulching material if applied. May repotted tree after 3 years or place in the shamba in well drained fertile soil.
