Botanical name: Grevillea
Grevillea is a diverse genus of about 360 species of evergreen flowering plants in the family Proteacea.
Before the advent of aluminium, Grevillea robusta timber was widely used for external window joinery, as it is resistant to wood rot. It has been used in the manufacture of quality furniture, cabinetry, and fences. Popular for farm forestry. The timber is also great for wooden toys and leaves serve as fooder.
In Kenya it’s valued by local farmers for firewood, timber and the young foliage which provides useful fodder. The tree grows alongside crops.
It is an exotic tree.
